TradeGala Brand Interview - Sarvin

Sarvin | Wholesale Luxury Fashion Brand | TradeGala

TradeGala sits down with Sarvin Clark, founder and CEO of the eponymous brand to get the lowdown on their original designs and luxury fashion

How did Sarvin come about?

Growing up in India, fashion was a common topic amongst my family, and so I have always wanted to launch a fashion label from a young age. After completing my Master's degree in International Fashion Marketing, I took on several internships in the fashion industry to learn more about the business of fashion.  I was designing and making pieces that informed early Sarvin designs in my spare time, posting the final pieces on Instagram and selling them to a small following, eventually making dresses to order. My pieces started gaining commercial attention, and soon I outgrew my made-to-order business model, so with the demand for ready-to-wear growing, the brand as it is known today was born.

What is the inspiration behind Sarvin?

Inspiration for the brand comes from my Persian heritage mixed with classic British luxury and glamour. I like to combine the glamour from by-gone eras of the 1950s and 1970s with a  contemporary twist. This twist could be an interesting fabric I have sourced or a vibrant hand-drawn print - for instance, our latest collection is made from recycled cotton linter which is a waste product from the textile industry. It features our first-ever exclusive print designs which are hand-drawn by famous Persian artist Ali Fani Salek.

Who is the typical Sarvin customer?

We have an expanding customer base made up of loyal and devoted consumers who are looking to shop more socially and with a higher environmental consciousness, without compromising on their personal style.  Our current customer demographic is predominately women aged between 25 - 45 with a high disposable income. She is well educated to University level and beyond, as well as being is socially and environmentally conscious with a desire to make more responsible buying habits not limited to fashion and clothing.

What differentiates your brand from others in the market?

It is our mission to imbue each collection with an air of luxury, whilst remaining sustainability sourced and being eco-conscious from the initial sketches to the moment your Sarvin delivery arrives at your door. There are not many brands like us on the market who can offer customers a dose of Sarvin sparkle with our luxury, glamourous pieces that are also made responsibly and with our planet and people in mind.

What is your most popular product, and why do you think it's so popular?

Our Natalie dress is one of our best sellers. It encapsulates everything that the brand is about; it is playfully feminine whilst being timeless and versatile. I've seen women style it so many wonderful ways!

What's the biggest challenge you've faced, and how did you overcome it?

Introducing our latest eco-friendly collection to the market a year and a half ago as the market was not ready for such materials. We had to educate people via our social media pages and partnered marketplaces about these beautiful silk-like eco-friendly garments and share the benefits of using recycled materials without compromising on styles and quality of dresses.

Where do you see Sarvin in the next 5 years?

I see the brand having bespoke services alongside our own team of manufacturers to help other planet conscious brands to produce in the UK more sustainably. Besides, growing our exclusive Persian print collections and moving the brand to a more zero wastage label.

What advice would you give to aspiring fashion entrepreneurs?

I hope that the world, and especially the fashion industry, learns from the current circumstances we all find ourselves in. The industry is oversaturated, moving extremely quickly, churning out collections faster than ever before. I believe brands should slow down, rethink and minimise the overconsuming culture that it has built up. This would also aid in terms of sustainability, producing apparel that will last beyond a season, as well as looking into more environmentally friendly and conscious means of production of goods.
